2024-2026 Dermatology residency program
Dermatology Services for Dogs and Cats
Deadline of application: December 31, 2023
Dermatology Services for Dogs and Cats offers a 3 year residency program in Dermatology beginning on April 1, 2024. The facility and the residency program are organized to meet the requirement of the AiCVD (Asian College of Veterinary Dermatology) residency program and to allow supervision on a regular basis in order to increase condition toward success.
Candidate should:
- Have a veterinary license approved government
- Have completed a minimum 1 year general clinical training program in an academic institution or satisfactory private practice equivalent
- Candidate should be fluent in Japanese and ask to have a good level in English
- Have a satisfactory moral and ethical standing in the profession and the community
The resident is expected:
- To complete the requirement to take the board examination of the AiCVD
- To assist and provide care to animal patients presented to Dermatology Services for Dogs and Cats under the supervision of AiCVD residency supervisor
- To assist the training of young veterinarian in a non-official program under the supervision of AiCVD residency supervisor
- To maintain a positive attitude toward peers, technicians, support staff and supervisors
Residency weekly schedule
- Small animal dermatology clinics: 4 mornings and 4 afternoons. The resident consults under the close supervision of an AiCVD diplomate
- Small animal medicine and surgery clinics: intensive rotating program. The resident will consult under the supervision of specialists on these fields
- Exotics, equine and large animal dermatology clinics: intensive rotating program
- Weekly case round on Tuesday morning
- Journal-club once weekly for 42weeks/year
- Dermatopathology conference once weekly
- Basic research and histopathological training
Continuing education:
- Attendance to Japanese, European (or American) and World veterinary dermatology congress is compulsory
- Attendance to workshops accredited by the AiCVD
- Attendance to ESVS or equivalent continuing program is strongly advised as it provides in depth courses on small animal dermatology
- At the end of the three years, the resident is expected to meet the AiCVD requirement to sit the examination such as publications, research results, clinical case load, clinical cases, education, conferences, presentations in congresses
